Branch Dinner / Cabaret, Saturday 16th November 2013
With the festive season approaching everyone was undoubtedly in high spirits. Tickets sold out, appropriate attire worn and raffle money at the ready an enjoyable evening clearly was in the making.
Pre-dinner drinks gave everyone the chance to catch up with old and new friends. A welcome from our President then over 100 guests were seated for an enjoyable three course meal. Being seated this presented an opportunity for the charming raffle ticket / human bingo co-ordinators the chance to encourage guests to invest with the promise of wonderful prizes for the lucky few. Human bingo followed the meal, an interesting twist of a well known pastime with the winner receiving a life changing cash prize. With excitement building the much anticipated raffle was next offering an array of splendid merchandise to be won – surprisingly, our Chairman’s wife won the final prize and suspicions of foul play was deliberated !.
Our Chairman then took a few moments to thank everyone for supporting the evening. The Association is run for the benefit of members and to promote refereeing in Ashford, this being our only fundraising event of the year so a huge thanks to everyone for their support.
The Bill Manklow Referee of the year award was presented to Roger Corkhill. Roger devotes much of his time to the Association encompassing many roles. He is a well deserved winner.
Time for the first of a two part entertainment, El Loco is a truly unique act, for 40 minutes not a word was spoken yet completely entertaining. The show is set around a bizarre dentist chair and a radio that plays over 300 different snippets of music, sound effects and voice over’s from the past 50 years. The results are simply hilarious and unlike any show you have ever seen before. It was then time for some live music and Chicory Tip took to the stage celebrating and recreating songs from the past and present with many wanabe Pans People taking to the floor dancing to the hits of The Monkeys, Neil Diamond and Queen a groovy time was had by all.
All to soon it was time to bring to a close the evening, the final verdict ?, unanimous ! an exceptionally enjoyable occasion.
