Branch Dinner / Cabaret, Saturday 15th November 2014
Once again it was time to celebrate the forthcoming
festive season and another successful year for the Ashford Branch, this being
our 66th year. Could it have
really been a year since our last Dinner/ Dance ?.
Everyone arrived smartly dressed in the latest fashions and clearly looking forward to the evening. Friends and colleagues were reunited for pre-dinner drinks and new friends were introduced. At 7.30pm it was time to take our seats for dinner, the meal was splendid, three courses and with your preferred beverage accompanying the meal the atmosphere was soon lively. Our Chairman took the chance to visit each table to trade “Human Bingo / Irish Bingo / Stand up sit down keep moving Bingo” tickets, his charm, charisma and just good salesmanship ensured many tickets were sold – well done Mr Chairman.
Our Master of Ceremonies, Ian Milbery kept good order ensuring proceedings moved along and at the correct pace.
Following coffee and mints it was time for “Irish Bingo” which necessitated everyone to stand, numbers were called, then one by one participants were expelled from the game until finally there was a winner. Numbers were verified by a specialist expert panel and once confirmed there were cheers of “bravo” to the prize-winner who is now in receipt of a grand cash prize.
Next in proceedings it was time for the presentation. The Ashford & Weald Referees Association continues to be a success due to the hardworking volunteers who regularly give many hours of their time each month and year. This year The Bill Manklow Shield was presented to Don Amos, a well deserved winner.
Time for entertainment and we welcomed comedy act Bruce Thompson who soon had us in uproarious laughter……There were two bodies in a morgue, one wearing a Black suit and the other wearing a Blue suit…...
The raffle followed with many wonderful prizes to be won, a world cruise, first class air tickets and a bottle of the finest vintage champagne to name just a few.
Finally it was time to grove the remainder of the night away and Tres Hombres (three men) took to the stage playing many favourites past and present.
Another very enjoyable evening was had by all.
Thanks must go to our Vice Chairman Ian and his wife and also to our Social Secretary Barry and his wife for all their hard work.
