Branch Dinner / Cabaret, Saturday 14th November 2015
Could it really have been a year since our last Dinner Dance ?.
This year was a sell-out and clearly everyone was looking forward to the evening, the gentlemen arrived all looking dapper and the ladies very elegant. Pre-dinner drinks and cocktails and meeting up with friends, old and new soon created a lively atmosphere. Dinner was announced and with everyone seated a superb 3 course dinner was served.
Next it was Award time:-
Bill Manklow award - This award is presented to a branch member each year who over the past year has given excellent service to refereeing as well as the outstanding effort and service to the referee branch. The winner this year was Vince Bottacchi, Vince started refereeing in 2009 and climbed the ladder to become a level 5 in 2014. Vince has been outstanding in the training and mentoring of our new referees, he is also the branch referees rep on the Sunday league – top man indeed.
Referees Association award – This award went to Don Amos who has completed 50 years membership as a referee starting his refereeing career in 1965. The award was presented by John Fenning the President of our branch and life member of the Referees Association. Also in attendance was Jock Campbell who is also a life member of the RA . Dons wife Joan was also presented with flowers from the branch for her support to Don`s refereeing over the past 50 years – well done Don.
Some sad news – our dinner / dance committee announced that they are retiring from organizing this yearly event, we would like to thank them for all the splendid work they have done over the years.
It was time for some fun and our yearly favourite, stand up sit down Bingo was next. This year the cash prize was colossal, a match for any euro lottery, so much in fact that we had to arrange for security to safeguard the prize fund. A winner was soon found with good natured cheers and applause from everyone.
The comedian, Simon Sands then took to the floor and soon had our sides splitting………David Beckham purchased a flask.........
The serious part of the evening then followed, THE RAFFLE !, everyone throughout the evening had been “eyeing up” the numerous first class prizes with many happy punters coming away winners.
To conclude a fantastic evening it was time for everyone to put on their dancing shoes and boogie the night away to the sounds of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
